HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Ms. Caroline Shipman was selected as our employee of the year for 2007! Caroline has been in our nursing department since November 2002 and excels at her job. Along with being outstanding and caring she also had perfect attendance, another impressive accomplishment. For her efforts she received a check for $500 as Employee of the Year and received yet another check in the amount of $125 for perfect attendance. All well deserved. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

Resident of the Month

Marylene Strain was chosen as our resident of the month for January 2008. Born in Elba, Alabama she was a legal secretary in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. After her marriage to Hal in 1937 they had two daughters Libba and Angie, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Marylene owned and operated Strains of Music until she retired in 2000. Marylene enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and gardening. She lives at the Lodge with her cat Kitnin. We are glad to have her as part of our family.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Crystal Phillips has been chosen as our Employee of the Month for January, 2008. She works as a CNA in the Lodge. Crystal is from Orlando, Florida and has lived in Sylva for 18 years.She is married to Roger and they have 1 son Robert. Her hobbies are sewing, cross stitching and listening to country music. We are glad she is part of our team at Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center.

COOKBOOKS!!!

We still have lots of cookbooks for sale. They are filled with yummy recipes and cooking short cuts. All proceeds go to buy fun stuff for our residents! If we don't sell some there won't be any proceeds, so come get yourself or someone else a cookbook.

Recipe of the Month

Spinach Balls

20 ounces frozen spinach
2 cups herb stuffing mix
1 large chopped onion
3 well beaten eggs
3/4 cup parmesan cheese
1/2 cup melted butter
3 dashes hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper

Cook spinach, drain, squeeze dry and chop fine. Add the remaining ingredients and chill for several hours. Shape into small balls, (bite size) and freeze. When ready to use, place spinach balls on cookie sheet sprayed with oil spray and lined with foil. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes and serve.
